Delhi Master Plan 2020 would be rolled out soon

New Delhi, 20 June. Mrs Shiela Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi said that CII would be included in the Task Force on Commonwealth Games headed by the Chief Secretary, Govt. of NCT, She was interacting with the CII delegation led by Mr Adesh Gupta, Chairman and Mr Deep Kapuria, Deputy Chairman, CII (Northern Region).

The Chief Minister informed that the Delhi Master Plan 2020 would be rolled out soon. She reiterated the in view of 12 Lac people migrating to Delhi everyday, it was extremely important to decongest Delhi and to this effect a multi pronged strategy focusing on involvement of multiplicity of agencies, need for NCR development, building good quality infrastructure & especially good quality hospitals in NCR townships was a pre requisite.

Deliberating on CII"s broad priorities for the year:,CII NR Chairman, Mr Gupta informed that CII would play a catalytic role in achieving 8.3% economic growth and 10% industrial growth in the country. He further mentioned that CII Northern Region's plan for the next year was dovetailed to this larger organizational plan.

The CII Chairman said that the theme of the region, 'NIRMAN NORTH (New Opportunities through Rural, Technological and Human Resources)' highlighted the thrust areas for 2006 - 07, which included improving the infrastructure of the Region through Public Private Partnership, increasing the levels of investment, creating a Common Economic Zone, initiating policy reforms - labour, power, taxation etc, facilitating economic empowerment of rural areas and skill development for underprivileged youth


Emphasizing on the need of PPP to make the upcoming Commonwealth Games a success, Mrs Dikshit stated that for the Delhi Government would require 80-100 thousand volunteers and this could be achieved only through partnership. The Chief minister further said that it was equally important to understand the kind of support industry could provide w.r.t security systems, food supplies, volunteer kits, display devices etc., for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The Chief Minister said that she was looking for industry support especially in the area of water recycling & rain water harvesting (RWH). She stressed for the need of all new buildings to have RWH structure.

Informing about CII's efforts to develop a shared vision for all the states in the Northern Region, the Chairman NR invited the Chief Minister to be a part of the upcoming Nirman North Summit.


Earlier, Mr Ankur Bhatia, Chairman CII Delhi State Council highlighted that the focus of CII Delhi State Office this year would be towards preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010 as well as on the priority issues like Water, Retail & NCR Development.

He stressed that there was an urgent need to create a strong Brand for Delhi & that CII was working closely with the Delhi Government. to finalize this. He informed that CII Delhi State had come out with the 1st draft of the report on Retail in Delhi & that this would be unveiled at the Conference on Retail which would be organized by CII on the 31 of Aug 06.



The Chief Minister assured CII of Delhi Government's support for all the joint initiatives. The delegation also comprised Mr Sujith Haridas, Regional Director, CII (NR) and Mr Rajneesh Sharma, Head - CII Delhi State Office.
